My Term 1 Journey at BITSoM
My Term 1 at BITSoM has been a truly transformative experience 105 days filled with learning, competition, collaboration, and relentless problem-solving.
Entering the programme, I found myself surrounded by peers from an incredibly diverse mix of industries. Their experiences, perspectives, and energy created a learning environment that was both challenging and inspiring.
Every conversation, every group project, and every late-night discussion pushed me to think more critically. They also helped me structure problems with far greater clarity.
One of the defining aspects of my first term was my deep involvement in case competitions. I set a personal goal to participate in nearly every competition.
Across 10 case competitions, this consistency and dedication resulted in 5 National Finalist and 2 National Semi-Finalist finishes. Each competition presented ambiguous and complex business problems, requiring sharp problem decomposition and structured thinking.
Breaking down problem statements, building robust frameworks, conducting detailed research, and crafting actionable strategies became second nature. Many nights were spent debating approaches, testing assumptions, and rigorously defending recommendations with teammates.
These discussions were not conflicts but catalysts – driving sharper insights, stronger alignment, and more refined outcomes.
The study rooms quickly became the centre of my BITSoM life. I spent enough time there that the Operations Committee could recognise my emails without checking the sender. I have probably used every study room on campus with different groups, exploring new viewpoints and brainstorming strategies into the early morning hours.
While hostel rooms were meant for rest, the study rooms became the real battleground – where ideas were shaped, solutions were stress-tested, and deadlines were conquered.
Another invaluable part of this journey was the support and guidance from seniors. Networking with them became routine. Some of the most meaningful strategy discussions happened at 3 a.m. in the cafeteria, coffee in hand, as seniors shared frameworks, interview experiences, and corporate insights. These interactions made BITSoM feel less like a college and more like a collaborative community.
Academically, Prof. Sandeep Chandukala and Prof. Jaydeep Anand left a lasting impact on me. Their teaching style fundamentally changed the way I approach business problems. They taught us the power of structured thinking – how to break down complexity into manageable parts, apply analytics, and move decisively from ambiguity to clarity. Their classes often felt like boardroom simulations, preparing us for real-world decision-making.
Looking back, Term 1 was far more than academics and competitions – it was an intensive learning ecosystem. It reshaped how I analyse problems, collaborate under pressure, and communicate with intent.
As I move into the next phases of the MBA, I carry forward not just frameworks and wins, but a sharper sense of discipline, ownership, and purpose. Term 1 laid the foundation. What follows is about building on it – taking on bigger challenges, creating deeper impact, and continuing to grow as a problem solver and leader.
Anchored by these values, I am prepared to take on the next phase of the MBA with responsibility, resilience, and a focus on impact.
