60 MINUTES WITHOUT INTERNET: REFLECTIONS ON LIFE - A BIRD'S EYE VIEW
by Kshitij Sapra
Apr 3rd, 2023
I was leaving from my home (Chandigarh) to the Chandigarh International Airport. The airport is located in Punjab. Little did I realise that the internet services would be impacted until, I experienced the following-
Nothing worked.
Nothing worked.
Nothing worked.
Nothing worked.
Nothing worked.
- Two were a part of the GoFirst crew and had a layover at Chandigarh. It was good knowing about their experience in Chandigarh (first visit), their job, latest trends in aviation etc.
- One was a Chandigarh based Airbus Engineer flying for his training to Mumbai. Being a curious aviation enthusiast, I asked him many questions and learnt a lot. Example – How much fuel does a plane carry, how do we distinguish between various models of Airbus by looking at the engine, what is the usual take off speed, how are the runways numbered (Chandigarh has two – One One , and Two Niner).
- One was a 3D Artist working in Mumbai – completed her graduation from a private university in Chandigarh. As we chatted, I noticed she was carrying a new piano with her and we struck up a conversation about the protocols and procedures for transporting musical instruments. I learnt about her work and experiences in Mumbai. She expressed curiosity about my experiences at Deloitte and EY, and was interested in learning more about what motivated me to pursue an MBA after spending over four years in the consulting domain
These were some enriching conversations that left me with a newfound appreciation for the diversity of perspectives and experiences that can be found in our world.
It worked.
Firefighting – I was unable to work on my assignment, but instead worked on some things that have been taking a toll since long. Such as working on a quick tracker to introspect on my travel in the past year, writing this short summary of my experience, cleaning my phone (removing excessive forward videos, photos / videos no longer required etc). It was a different kind of firefighting.
It worked.
Power of Human Connection
The Internet may propel us forward, but the power of human connection remains unparalleled. Let us never underestimate its significance.
The absence of internet compels to shift our attention towards a broader perspective – encourages us to step out of our individual world and work toward going beyond the boundaries that we have imagined for ourselves.
I hope to post this once I land in Mumbai, and have access to the internet.
