ZERO-SUM TO WIN-WIN: MY TRANSFORMATION AT BITSoM

The past academic year was indeed a roller coaster of emotions and learning. The biggest takeaway has been how self-awareness has helped me develop my personality and mitigate my weaknesses.

A little backstory: I have been a competitive swimmer representing Team India internationally. In an individual sport, the most significant peril is the zero-sum game, i.e. an advantage to one side resulting in an equivalent loss for the other.

TO NEW BEGINNINGS

It is not every day that life offers you a chance to experience Mumbai. The city of dreams. And also of traffic, 24/7 incessant rain, and a melange of cultures walking across streets brimming with the aroma of steaming hot vada pavs in every turn you take.

It is also not every day that life offers you a chance to be a part of an institute like BITSoM. Now before I brag about this brand new B-school in town let me walk you through our dramatic entry into the place we’d call our homes for the next two years.

THE CHOICE

It was the month of August 2020, when I finally decided to pursue an MBA. Before going further, allow me to tell you a bit about myself. I am an architect who is passionate about design and I have worked as an academic in an architecture school. I loved my job as I had the freedom to execute new ideas, but I was not happy with its progression financially. Pursuing higher education in business after having been actively involved in architecture for 7 years was definitely a tough decision. I was convinced by the idea that pursuing an MBA will give me better opportunities for financial growth and well-being.

CRACKING THE ESSAY CODE

An MBA (Master of Business Administration) school application journey can be daunting with multiple elements to work upon. The one element that takes the biggest chunk of time is drafting essays. These essays give the admission committee qualitative cues to gauge the applicant’s persona that goes beyond academics and work experience, to reveal the true motivation, life values and larger goals, of the applicant.

There is no set formula or recipe to crafting a compelling story through your essay, but a structured approach can help. To get you started on your application journey, students from our founding class share their own experiences and thoughts.
